Instead of a function trace, could I humbly suggest a "Time Profile"? And instead of Shark 4.1.1, upgrade to the latest (4.2.2 as far as I know)?

Shark has the occasional bug, but the performance guys are more than aggressive about fixing them in my experience, and considering the wealth of features that they are constantly adding, it's amazing how well it works.

Between George and Sanjay, you are in REALLY good hands as far as figuring out how to make your code go faster...
