What do you mean by executing them directly?
Forget the GUI for a moment, go to the Terminal, type the binary's
path, hit Enter.
I double-clicked the binary and it opened a Terminal window, ran
it, and it behaves just as when I run the app from Xcode (no
menubar, etc). No other error messages.
There won't pop some window up. At best, there are a few lines of
text. From dyld, for example, because the app is linked against some
not existing framework.
If the app just returns to the prompt without any further message, a
look into the last lines of /var/log/system.log (requires root
privileges) can give you a hint. If there isn't anything either, I
dunno.
