All-
I have noticed some surprising behavior in Xcode. Whenever I have some sort
of time-sensitive deadline, Xcode decides that Every build is a Good build
to do a Full build. Because naturally when something is due in an ever
diminishing quantity of time, I want to spend 15 minutes rebuilding all of
the libraries that haven't changed in weeks. Every time I run.
The algorithm doesn't just extend to full builds, it seems that GDB is also
tied in to the AI that tries to prevent you from completing any sort of
deadline. When you really, really want to look at something in GDB, it sort
of gets into this odd funk where it tells you that it stopped at a
breakpoint, but doesn't load anything into any of its panes (no stack, no
code, no vars), and you really can't do anything with it.
Sometimes when debugging, I want to quit and debug again. Only it decides
that sort of efficiency would be in conflict with its prime directive, so it
dims the Debug button and forces a rebuild.
If it isn't a violation of NDA, could someone please post the AI algorithm
that is able to tell with such unerring accuracy when is the best time to
completely fall on its face? It's terribly, terribly impressive...
I could go on, and on, and probably should. Lets just say that I now know
better, and whenever I check out and notice a project or nib file has
changed, I just delete it and pull it down from subversion again, rather
than wait to see if the merge corrupted it. Because corrupted xcode projects
and nibs usually wait until late in the game to behave strangely, and let
you waste an inordinate amount of time before you finally delete your
corrupted copy and check out again. I can only presume that, hell, I don't
know, a checksum would be "too hard"...

alternative whatsoever)
