slow and weird debugger output

  • Subject: slow and weird debugger output

Sometimes, when running the debugger, it comes to a function that performs some output; usually this writes to some combinations of stdout, stderr, and or files. When gdb hits these functions, I usually just pass over them using "step over" (next). Then, the debugger locks for as much as several minutes, chugging up the processor, during which time I suppose it's "trying" to do I/O!! What's going on here? Has anyone seen this? Workarounds?

Thanks,

Markian
