What is stray '\177' in program error? It seems to occur if I type 'delete' key in Xcode 1.5.

Is it a source file to be compiled with gcc/g++/... ? Sounds like you should check the text encoding of your file against a new one of the same type (File Info, General tab).

Would you tell me how to remove the invisible characters?

Xcode -> Menu -> Format -> Show Control Characters, then use Backspace.

Two other useful menu items are "Scripts->Text->Remove Non-Printing Characters" and "Scripts->Text->Convert Non-Breaking Spaces".

Just a plug for the under-utilized scripts menu. (And, of course, you can add your own....)
