That was it.

At some forgotten point, I'd pointed to BBEdit 8.2.4 as the editor.
Then upgraded to BBEdit 8.2.5 & removed 8.2.4.

So Xcode was pointed at a non-existant editor & got confused.


It took diving through the file>text>sourcecode>c... layers to see the
issue.
