"Advanced Programming in the UNIX Environment"

A friend of mine bought me "Advanced Programming in the UNIX Environment" for me to get up to speed on UNIX programming (I come from a Windows and DOS background)

One of my goals is to write a console text editor like vi or PICO. Is this book a good start to learning how to do this?

Thanks,

-Jason
