Is it possible to move '.plist' files?

I created a new project from the XCode template for audio units. Since I like to keep things neatly organized, I moved the '.plist' files into a sub folder. Afterwards I used the Groups & Files window and the get info button to reset the paths to the files. XCode knows where to find everything, at least by that route. Now when I try to build I get dependency errors for all the .plist files, saying it can't find them. Are the locations of these files hardcoded into XCode so that they have to be in the root project folder or is there some double super secret expert setting somewhere where they can be changed that I haven't been able to find? Is there a way to look up where the dependency occurs?
