It's obviously some sort of sports some people enjoy. Cracking
software and offering cracks for free doesn't make any sense other
than enjoyment.
If you want to limit usage of your software to paying customers only,
add many and strong license checks. If you want your software to be
used more widely, weaken this.
To start a list of anti-crack measures:
- Obfuscate what you are doing. Don't name your methods
"LicenseCheck", use some misleading name instead.
- Comment out license creation code in your release builds.
- Check license often and in unexpected places.
- Add some hardware numbers in your license, e.g. the Ethernet MAC
address. Requires custom-built licenses, of course.
- Consider online licenses. One Dollar per day of usage? Consider
what people think about DRM for Audio/Video as well.
