You might have to restart XCode after that, I'm not sure. I tried it with XCode not running, and then launched it. It does now build 6 at once. I imagine, though, that this will increase overall build time; I don't know by how much.

So would a valid assumption be that Xcode somehow got a wrong value in its internal variable where it might hold this pref (if present)? Somehow a bug in Xcode caused it to get filled in with 6 instead of 2, which is why I was seeing 6 files being compiled at a time?


I still haven't seen an explanation why I get 8 files being compiled at a time when I have only 6 PPC CPUs available. This happens all the time here, not just once in a while. I just checked and none of my machines have the PBXNumberOfParallelBuildSubtasks pref set, so all 3 dual-CPU machines should add up to 6, unless they've changed how math works and I didn't get the memo.
