I'm happy for you that you are able to debug.
I can click in the gutter and a breakpoint appears, but Xcode will
happily skip past them.
Typing "info breakpoints" into GDB tells me that the breakpoint is
pending. The source code is in a static library. The static library
is created by the same project I am debugging. The source is all
there available to Xcode.

??? Clicking into the gutter, the grey vertical bar at the left of
an editor window worked for me so far. There's a preference "Show
gutter" to make the gutter visible always.
