Often, but I can't pinpoint when or why, the "pretty build errors"
part of the the Xcode build window collapses upward, leaving me with
just the "text dump" section and the "source editor" sections
visible.

Any clues?
I have noticed this as well. It is highly repeatable, and seems new
with
Xcode 2.2 in my experience. As such, I have put in a bug report for
it.
If you have the chance, you should submit one as well. Maybe be closed
as a dupe, but it will let them know its not an isolated problem.
