Build failed for target "RealCheckers" (1 error)
What does this mean?
I would assume that it means that one of your targets has a reference
to a file that it can't find in the file system. Check your files in
Xcode (also in the build phases) - are any one marked with red text
instead of black? That would indicate that it's missing / incorrectly
referenced. Check the paths listed in the build output, are you sure
that they point to existing files? Double-check!

sorry, I forgot to add... this is xcode 2.1
Why not Xcode 2.2.1?

ok, I've been playing around, and apparently I had to set my path

But, I have no clue why...? Can anyone elucidate?
That is not true in the general case. We have all paths, in all
projects, set to relative - for obvious reasons! Something must have
been messed up when you added the files to the project in the first
place. Try to remove and re-add the files. You should be able to have
them as relative references. If you have problems with this, please
return to the list, and describe exactly how you add the files to the
project.
