And Unix. Linux, AIX, QNX, OSX, NeXT, Unix...
Ok, probably some bad examples there, but that's the reason it's called
Xcode -- it's not about the tenth iteration of Mac OS, it's about the
first iteration of a Unix-y Mac OS. They could as easily have called it
UniXcode. Just look at the tools it uses:
GCC: GNU C Compiler.
GNU: GNU's Not Unix.
And of course, GNU's Not Unix in roughly the same sense that WINE Is Not
an Emulator. Which is to say: GNU is technically not the same as the
original AT&T Unix, but it does the same things, only better.
But I'll make you a deal: Don't correct me when I pronounce it X, and I
won't correct you when you pronounce it Ten.
