What we do is we add files to CVS and then whenever someone who's building with a different build system, be it VC (several different versions), Xcode, or the autotools, he adds the missing files to that particular build system. It's not perfect, but it works and since adding a file isn't _that_ common, it doesn't cause that many problems.
