Whoa! Didn't want to start a Cocoa/Carbon argument, which is why I
stressed that my reasons were personal. I think its great that
there are lots of third party apps written in Cocoa for the Mac,
its just I'm not sure yet that its the right way for me to go.
I've been reading this with interest. I've got a C++ library that
makes some (sparing) use of exceptions. We're not writing a Mac
interface yet (much to my annoyance), but I've been thinking about
whether Cocoa or Carbon would be a better way to do it. We had an
Apple developer tell us this that Cocoa on C++ was *the* way to do
cross platform development a few years ago, but he didn't explain.
So what exactly are the issues? And if it is off-topic to xcode-
users, where would it on topic?
Your question would be more apropriate on cocoa-dev or carbon-dev:

http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/carbon-dev
Unfortunately, on either list you're going to get religious zealots
on either side who will chime in with their opinions. But if you put
up the proper filters you can get good answers on either list.
I have worked on a variety of cross platform applications.
Macromedia FreeHand being the most well-known, but currently I'm
working on Mindjet MindManager (see <www.mapthemac.com>).
FreeHand was C++ and one of the first Carbon applications (ever).
MindManager is a Cocoa/C++ application. Both applications are
roughly of the same complexity. In short, I have some opinions on
this subject and would be more than happy to offer my insight if you
care to hear it... but it's not relevant to xcode-users so contact me
at carbon/cocoa-dev or off list.
