Editor Usage Question
Editor Usage Question

I like to edit source files with each pair (.h, .m) in its own split
window, i.e. one window split between foo.h and foo.m, another window
split between bar.h and bar.m.
I find this extremely inconvenient to set up. For each window / file
pair, I currently:
1. Double-click (say) foo.h in the project window to open it in a
new editor window
2. Click the toolbar button to make the window "Grouped"
3. Click the button to edit the Counterpart (in same window)
4. Click the toolbar button to make the window "Ungrouped" (lest future
file edits end up in this window)
5. Click the widget to split the window (now have foo.m in both splits)
6. Change one of the splits to show foo.h
And then, of course, when I quit Xcode (2.1), he forgets about the
splits and the next time I open the project I have the same number of
windows but no splits, and I have to go through most of the above dance
once again.
"There Must Be a Better Way"!
Am I missing some existing operation or preference which would make this
process easier? Might I be able to implement some sort of scripting
solution to do this in a single click?
I'd be happy to try to implement some sort of AppleScript solution if
someone can point me in the right direction. I find AppleScript and
AppleScript Dictionaries to be more than a little opaque. I took a look
at the Xcode dictionary, but didn't see/recognize any obvious "edit this
project file in a separate window", "split this window", etc. sort of
operations.
TIA,
-Dave
