Often I cannot access the headers of compiled source files using

I haven't been able to find out what conditions influence the problem.
It happens under XCode v2.2, with C files, in all my projects (Mac OS 10.4.5). Sometimes the companion header to the file is visible sometimes not. Sometimes the companion headers to files that are in the same group are also visible (if included).

If I toggle the path settings in the info window (to absolute path) all the headers appear again (including my precompiled header). As soon as I make a do-nothing change and compile the file I lose them again, whatever the setting.
I tried making sure that all the folder s in the groups & files frame correspond to real folders but this didn't help much either.

If a .c file compiles the headers must have been found, so why don't they show up?

Jan E.
