I too have seen this, mostly in Xcode but also in Mail and the Terminal. I'm not the only one. I started noticing it in 10.4.4 (I think) but I've continued to see it in 10.4.5. Here's one suggested solution: clearing the font cache.

Cheers,

Is anyone else seeing strange behavior in Mac OS X 10.4.5 (PPC), Xcode 2.2.1 where Monaco 10 looks fine at first and then after awhile, some characters start drawing incorrectly? The difference is subtle, but noticeable if you look at enough Monaco.

What happens is that I'll be writing some code in Xcode, and all is well. I'll switch back to another app (Terminal, Mail, Safari, whatever) and then back, and the text looks funny all of a sudden. Then, those incorrectly drawn characters in Xcode look wrong in *all* Mac OS X apps (Cocoa and Carbon). This usually only happens with one or two characters (usually C, R, S, T, or *).

Like I said, I don't know if this is caused by Xcode or not, but it only seems to happen when I'm running it. It happens on multiple machines that I have, but not in any predictable way. I can get the text to go back to normal by launching Font Book, looking at Monaco, and changing the displayed font size using the slider a few times.

For a screenshot of the problem, check out

The top shows C being drawn incorrectly.

Anyway, if anyone else is seeing this and has either figured out why it's happening or at least has some steps to reproduce, I'd love to know about it.

Thanks!
