Thanks Scott and Fritz - I shall turn off the pre-bind option given
that I'm targeting just 10.4 onward.
For the record, I note that pre-binding is unset by default for new
projects (Cocoa apps at least). However my project was created 3
years ago which is why the option persists.
I'm curious as to why pre-binding a yes-yes in 10.2 but a no-no in
10.3 onwards. What was the change in thinking?
No change in thinking, but a chance in Mac OS X behavior. A number of
performance improvements were put into 10.3.4 (and later) to minimize
the cost of not being prebound.
Lastly, 'tho the option is now unset by default, the description for
the option in xcode reads:
"This setting determines if prebinding will be attempted by adding -
prebind to linker flags, and defaults to being active for all
product types except static libraries. [PREBINDING]"
...which is no longer the case.
Technically the description is still true, since Prebinding has to be
explicitly turned off in the templates. However, as I said before,
it's probably time to revisit that default setting for a future
version of Xcode.
