James, I am convinced with your answer... but then only the message displayed "Less than a minute" for a time of more than one hour is creating the confusion... to decide whether the system is really hang or not.

Indexing is not an incremental process. The amount of documentation that has changed is immaterial; it all has to be reindexed. Consequently, it doesn't matter if you're installed for the first time or simply updated one page, the reindexing process will take about the same amount of time.
