Could someone please explain the reasoning behind this.
I could say: "A delta update for Mac OS X would be a nightmare for
both the endusers and the Mac OS X team". Isn't Mac OS X bigger
than Xcode, and aren't endusers on average less competent than
developers? Apple has a lot of experience in managing delta
updates, I think.
I'm sure they could do delta updates if they really wanted to, but
the need for them isn't as compelling for Xcode as it is for the
entire OS. If you've installed both you know what I mean. I can
update the OS or do a full install of Xcode while continuing to use
my computer, for example. A full install of the OS ties up my
computer for a long time and requires restarting at least twice. I'm
sure it's a lot of work on the part of many people to create a major
update properly. I would assume the developer tools team just wants
to avoid using their time that way since the full install generally
works fine for most people.
