I switched to single-window mode about 6 months ago and overall
I've been pretty happy with it. But one thing that really bugs me
is the fact that the Groups & Files layout has a different memory
for "Project" mode than it does for "Build" mode. Call me crazy,
but these two modes tend to be pretty intertwined, and the fact
that I can edit files in either mode causes me to constantly be
losing my place in the "Groups & Files" tree. I'll have delved
down into some file hierarchy while in the Build mode, only to find
myself back in "Project" mode and having to delve right back down
again.
It would be great if I could convince Xcode to maintain only one
"Groups & Files" pane that was shared between the two modes,
instead of having two that were switched back and forth between. I
don't suppose this is possible? I couldn't find an "expert"
preference setting.
Daniel,
I don't know of an expert setting but I completely agree with you. I
use single-window mode too. I filed an enhancement request to have a
switch to sync the selected file in Groups and Files with the file
being edited and your idea is a great one too. I made command-1, 2,
and 3 switch between Project, Build, and Debug which helps a lot. I
just quickly switch to project mode and try not to do any work in the
other two.
I'm curious why you switched though. I have tried the other modes and
just can't get used to them. I want to use the mode that XCode wants
me to use (the one that gets the most attention but maybe that's all
modes) but I keep coming back to single window mode.
