I run distcc builds using 2 MacBook Pros, an iMac C2Duo and a Mac Pro without issues. Compile time dropped from 275 seconds on MBP to 75 seconds for my project, however the Mac Pro is doing nearly all the work.
Also, treat yourself to a gigabit switch for the best performance. The prices for 5 and 8 port versions are reasonable enough now.
