I understand what you're saying, and suggesting, perfectly. I was simply trying to point out existing features of Xcode that might help you get better performance out of Xcode today.
Your suggestions for text indexing techniques are interesting, but they are just that: suggestions. You would be much better served filing an enhancement request explaining your proposal. This would allow the Xcode team to evaluate, prioritize, and track your idea.
