This isn't really related to Xcode any longer. Is there a better
place to discuss this? <http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo>
doesn't seem to contain a compiler list (as was noted on
perfoptimization-dev earlier this week).
I'm afraid I'm not the best person to answer concerning the rationale
of certain parts of the C++ standard. That's not to imply that I'm
against the rationale or don't believe a good one exists, just that
it isn't my area expertise. Indeed my experience is that there are
usually some very good rationales once you find the right people to ask.
I recommend one of these newsgroups:
comp.lang.c++.moderated
comp.std.c++
