I agree it "sounds" like a step backward. But, having used it for a while
it works quite well. There are several other aspects to the commanding
system that make it very usable for handycaped or other users. 1) You can
select text and "execute" the text making it possible to have a command
summary document or help text directly executable. You do not need to read
help and then go find that command on the UI. Also menus always show the
same text as the user enters so there is no confusion on what to type/use
for a command. And last the user can add items to menus/commands that map
to the actions they want as scripts. While it does take some getting used
to it is very efficient and requires less absolute time in aggregate than
other systems. The problem with single key sequences is that there are so
few that are truly meaningful for the command being issued.
