Ultimately, I think we need to all log some Usability bugs against
these issues. The more folks that log bugs against this, the more
chance Apple will look into offering a better solution. I think I
logged one on this before, but it may have been during Panther. I'll
go back and log one against Tiger (and Leopard if necessary).
I personally think that All registered Hot-Keys should go through one
UI and there should be a way to globally disable it from the user's
point of view and optionally disable it on an Application basis. Allow
the user to have different sets of hot keys as well.
It might take a couple releases to get 3rd party folks to comply, but
I think everyone would be happier (both developers who would have a
consistent UI to handle such tasks and users who would have the option
to control their hot keys better).

GROSS!! Try telling someone with a handicap that they'll have to hold
the command key AND type multiple keys. It's also not a very fast way
to do things like Exposé Desktop, something that I want fast access
to. All I want is for Apple to stop stealing F14 and F15 for
brightness. I've never changed the brightness on any desktop machine
after the initial setup of a new monitor. It's just plain goofy to
think that changing the brightness requires instant access. I've
suggested they make it like how F12 will open the disc drawer *after*
it's held down for a second. Do the same for brightness and then
slowly increase/decrease it as long as the key is held down. Then I
can get back to use those very handy keys for much more important
tasks. Yes, Fkeys are a very rant-worthy issue. C'mon Apple! Listen
up, please.
