You are missing a '=' between the default key and value. Something
of the form
'xcodebuild -<default>=<value>'
should work.

Thank you all. I now have some lovely Ruby code that parses out and
classifies info, errors, and warning; is not tripped up by selectors
like "doSomethingInteresting:error:"; and in general seems to be
parsing out what I want and leaving behind what I don't.
