I see this problem all the time. It is reproducible (at least in 2.5).

When I see it is if I type:

[class method];

And then go back and put in the parameter:

[class mothod:@"string"];

When I type the first quote, the rest of the file goes red. When I type the
second quote, it stays red. No amount of adding and deleting the last quote
fixes it.

However, if I delete the trailing bracket (the ] ), and put it back in, all
gets cleared up.

All you have to do is hit a return and then backspace after the trailing " to get things to clear up, at least in my experience when this happens. Not seen this with Xcode 3.0.

To reiterate, if you see this with Xcode 3.0, please file a bug. We're not likely to fix it in 2.x as it was caused by a major limitation in the implementation. Xcode 3.0's editor removed the limitation. I haven't seen any reports of the problem persisting in 3.0 until this thread.

When making a report, make sure you include the file where you're seeing the bug, and give exact steps as to what you typed to get it to happen. And also include the com.apple.Xcode.plist preferences file.

While I don't see this issue myself (Leopard + Xcode 3.0), I'd like to propose to the OP that when testing, note the file encoding, EOL chars and whether or not the default colorization settings are being used, or if it's a custom set. They may have nothing to do with the issue, but you never know. Sometimes it's the minor differences between setups that cause a bug to not be reproducible on all machines.
