The subject line is new, but Mail.app appears to think it's part of another thread. Honestly, it looks like a problem with Mail.app, not Hartwig's post to the list.

No, this is due to the "References" header in the message which allows mail clients (not just Mail.app) to track which messages belong to which thread.


The proper way to start a new thread is therefore always to send a new message to a mailing list (which consequently will not contain any "References" header.
