Unfortunately distcc isn't allowing shared builds to take place between these OS versions, so the new MacBook is all by itself on the shared build network :).
Does anyone know if it's possible to update the rest of our computers to use 8P4112?
Any newly-released machine is going to have a newer, custom version of the last-released OS, in order to have the support for the hardware that wasn't in that last release. That's what 8P4112 is. So no, you can't upgrade all your machines to that version.
But now that 10.4.10 is out (and a palindrome!), you can upgrade all your machines to it, and thus have all of them using the same version of the OS again.
Better yet, is it possible to make distcc less restrictive regarding what it views as a compatible computer suitable for sharing builds? We also have many PowerPCs on the network but they're now useless to our Intel-based Macs. Please read the Xcode 2 User Guide: Distributing Builds Among Multiple Computers to see what your options are.
While "shared workgroup" builds (which use distcc) require the same architecture for all machines, "dedicated network" builds do not, although both options require you to be using the same version of the OS. There are other pros and cons to each approach. Please read the documentation, and do a search on this mail list, for more details.
