You might want to check the build line to make sure no unexpected gcc
flags are being sent by Xcode. Or you might compare to building via
straight gcc (no Xcode) to see if you get different behavior (as this
will be sure not to set any unexpected flags).
By the way, at least in my case, I think -fvisibily-inlines-hidden was
safe enough to use, it was just -fvisibilty=hidden that was the
problem. I've never used -fvisibility-ms-compat.
