We have worked quite closely with Intel in bringing icc into Xcode (http://www.intel.com/cd/software/products/asmo-na/eng/266992.htm), and are also extremely active in the LLVM effort (http://llvm.org/).

The gcc community is large, broad, and consensus-driven, and it is sometimes difficult to press initiatives that are not generally supported by the rest of the community.
