We are also painfully aware of the fact that Apple CHOSE gcc as the compiler
to use with Xcode, which is more-or-less the ONLY tool available to build
software on the Mac.


Given that is was Apple's choice to use gcc, gcc is open source, and Apple
has billions of dollars in the bank, is there any chance that Apple might do
something about this situation? For example, fix gcc or (gasp) use something
else? I though Apple was a part of the "gcc community" of which you speak?
