In XCode Target Settings overrides Project settings ... so it is better to check them first ;-)

I've just acquired a Mac Mini (Intel) & am trying to get familiar with XCode.
I downloaded a sample app from O'Reilly - A Bitmap Image Filter.
So I've now got an XCode project - ImageApp4 - which produces a working Intel App.
Great - now a simple task - produce a Universal Binary to run on my G3.
So I just edit the Project setting ARCHITECTURES and check both PPC and i386.
Now another Build and - still just an Intel Application !

What have I missed ??
