I'm an occasional programmer, producing small applications almost always for my own use. I grew up on OS 9 and earlier, with Inside Macintosh Volumes 1 to 6 as my bible and using Think Pascal.

Ah, wonderful memories ...

Now I really must move onto the new platforms

Good! The sound of progress!

I have never gone Object Oriented, so now is probably not the time to start

Au contraire! Now is the best time to start!

Or, to put it another way: In today's world you will find it hard to avoid Object Oriented technology, so my suggestion would be to embrace them as soon as possible. If you do not have to support legacy code or are under special contraints, Cocoa and Objective-C offer the easiest and best technologies on the Mac.

Learning Cocoa is easy and fun! Besides the tutorials and excellent documentation on the Apple site, most people probably suggest this book: http://bignerdranch.com/products/cocoa1.shtml
