how do I get xcode windows to stay open?

 xcode has started being very anal about windows

when I do a build it closes the windows,

when I have a .cpp file open and I open another

it closes the first.


this isn't what I want. I want the windows to stay open.
(I can't remember where a file came from
let alone what it's name was...
I just leave them open)


is there a pref I can change??
