I've just noticed this annoyance recently -- I don't
know if I just ignored it before, or it somehow crept
in on both systems I use.
If I put the cursor at the start of an empty line and
hit tab, I will often get one of two undesired results.
1. The cursor is moved two tab lengths to the
right instead of one.
2. The cursor is moved to the next line, at the
expected indentation.
Anyone have a workaround here or a setting I
need to change? Thanks.
The default key binding for the Tab key is
"Indent Friendly Insert Tab". If you want Tab to
just do plain-old-dumb-tab, rebind the Tab
key to "Insert Tab".
Xcode Preferences > Key Bindings > Text Key
Bindings, select "Insert Tab", double click in
the Keys field, press the Tab key, click outside
of the Keys field.
This is yet another little niggling "friendly feature"
we've been grumping about not working as desired since 2001
-- both on the lists and via the bug reporter -- but Apple
has yet to correct. The other that always immediately
comes to mind is handling of braces. Just a couple
constant annoyances that would be fairly simple to take
care of, but they bull-headedly refuse to correct or
provide options for because someone erroneously thinks he
knows more about what's good for users and developers than
the users and developers do.
Hmm, I'm not sure what you're referring to here. If you have a radar
number, let us know what it is, and we'll take a look.
As far as the initial report here goes, for 1) just turn off syntax-
aware indenting in the Indentation preferences pane. There's no need
to go to the key bindings for this.
For 2), that sounds like a bug. Please file one. If you can, include
the file in which it's happening. Also include your preferences file.
