What kind of Mac is this happening on? Mine has always done, but it stops after a minute or so. I assumed it was either Xcode checking all the files for their needs-compiled state, or Perforce collecting depot info on each file. If it's a slower machine, it just might take longer. But you said it didn't happen with 2.4.1. What version of p4 do you have installed? We're running P4/MACOSX104X86/2007.2/122958 (2007/05/23). Have you double-checked the depot config? If it were incorrect, you'd probably get an error message, so that's probably not it. Just throwing out idears.
