Fwd: display of variables

hi,

sometimes, out of a sudden xcode displays common *char
variables like:

0x6e69796d

this sucks, because then i have to click open a menu and try
to see the content of the pointer (which is a normal c-string)

two questions:

1-do others have this problem also
2-why is there not a c-string enty in the menu 'debuggers/variables view"

but most of all: how do i get xcode to show the content of strings instead
of telling me where the strings reside (for the latter i do not care too much)
