${SRCROOT} is also standard shell synctax. Curly braces, not parentheses.
If may also be useful to print all the shell variables that the script is
receiving, to see if the SRCROOT shell-var exists, and if so, its value.
The output will appear in the detailed build transcript.
Finally, there are several different shells with very different syntax, so
it would help if the OP stated which shell his shell script build phase is
using.
