It seems that everything is OK from SVN's point of view after
importing into SVN, I just don't understand the error from XCode when
"Commit Entire Project". The error seems to indicate that I have not
set up something SVN calls a "working copy directory".

After importing my project into svn, I usually rename the top level

Then I check out the project from svn and make sure that it works
before I delete the original files.
Another thing that you might want to do before importing is to move
the build location outside of your
project folder (you can do this in the project's info window.) You
don't really need all that binary data in
svn (and I also ran into some problems with xcode when the build
folder was under svn.)
