Load older project question

I found a project on the web I would like to use as an example. The problem is I'm using xCode 3.1 and no matter what the file I assume to be a project file is loaded by xCode but displayed as text, how do I get this to work correctly?

Here's an example

I opened the zip and the folder contained a folder called

project.pbproj

and I opened it and found 2 files one called

proj.pbxuser

and another called

project.pbxproj.

How do I load and convert these to work with xCode 3.1?
