is used mostly for inserting text macros, though the indentation code
also looks at it for indentation of case statements.
The thing to note here is that the indentation support is only just
that - it doesn't do arbitrary formatting. Yes, we'd like to add
support for arbitrary formatting, but we're not there yet.
