If you know how to provoke this problem, please file a bug report
with as much information as you can:
I don't know how to make it fail on demand, if that's what you mean.
Yes, the backing store for Xcode Snapshots is a disk image, and
while it could possibly get corrupted, I don't think that's
necessarily what's causing this problem.
Removing the old disk image and having it create a new one, so tend to
think that it is.
You're typically not supposed to see, or have to care about, either
the disk image, or its corresponding mounted volume. They are an
implementation detail, and private to, the Xcode Snapshot machinery
and hidden to the extent that they can be.
Typically, yes, I'd agree with you. However, when it's actively
preventing me from using this feature, I do care.
Should just nuke the disk image and start from scratch? Where does
it live? Other suggestions?
You can nuke it, but please don't do that before you've collected
enough data for a bug report:
~/Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/
SnapshotRepository.sparseimage
Alternatively, just move it aside to see if that fixes the problem.
Quit Xcode before you do so, it will be re-created as needed.
Not sure what data I can collect, outside actually finding a set of
steps to force this to happen, which, unless I become an ad hoc Xcode
tester and dedicate myself to that task, I don't really see
happening. I have the disk image, but it's 332MB, and full of my
client's code. I'll hold onto it in case (1) I manage a reproducible
case and (B) I need the other stuff that's in there. Maybe I'll try
copying contents from the old one to the new and see what happens...
But in any case, thanks for the pointer. _______________________________________________
