When you say "OpenStep", do you mean GNUStep?

I mention this because your question's answer would vary significantly depending on which you mean. OpenStep was NeXT's last OS before being acquired by Apple, at which point the codebase morphed into Mac OS X. GNUStep is a community-driven project to recreate much of the functionality of OpenStep (and lately, some of Mac OS X) on OSes other than Mac OS X. It is the latter which would "run on Linux", as you mentioned, whereas the former would have been a replacement for Linux.

I use XCode to develop Qt applications.

Is that like what you are asking ?

I guess it's analogous, if you are targeting non-Mac platforms. If you have any sage advice I will certainly listen.

I am not sure if there are specific OpenStep issues, which is also
very improtant to know.

Thanks,

Has anyone has used Xcode for OpenStep development targeting non- OS X
platforms (especially Linux)? Are there any gotchas, or other things
that are important, such as certain build settings and the like?
Other
than the obvious, such as avoiding AppKit, of course.

My idea would be to build a product as a foundation tool, then after
mostly debugged convert the project to a make file, then compile
under
Linux (and debug some more).
