Xcode hangs when opening preferences

Hi all, I'm new to the list, and I couldn't find anything in the
archives that matches my problem, so here goes. Whenever I try to
open Preferences in Xcode it hangs immediately. This happens whether
I try to use the menu or the keyboard Command-comma shortcut. No
other menu items do this, I can open and edit source files or create a
new project.
Any ideas?
