setting NSTableView column widths in IB 3.0

I need to set the desired column width for an NSTableView column. I build a table view by eye, and my eyeballs are not calibrated in pixels. I have found only two ways in the inspector to set the column width in IB 3.0- by specifying the widtht in pixels or by using the stepper. The stepper would be appropriate for my requirements, but I can't find any way (I searched the preferences plist(s) without success) to make the stepper continuous. Clicking on the stepper a few hundred times is not my idea of a fun exercise, nor is guessing a pixel width and then stepping from there. I don' t seem to be able to drag the column boundaries as I could in the old days. I've google'd and experimented and tried to read what documentation there is without success. What am I missing (or am I out of luck)?
