When you were in the Project Find window, did you ever hit the

If so, you may have modified what files are searched, or what
filters are used, which could cause the behavior you are seeing.
I may have changed something in long-ago explorations, but not in the
short time between did-work and didn't-work. And, once the problem was
solved (below), I didn't see a difference in the "In Project"
settings. (It's a lot to remember, to be sure, but the difference
between "In Project" (didn't work) and "In Project and
Frameworks" (did) _was_ the same.)
But all this is quibbling, because...
If you go into the Options dialog and don't see anything, you may
want to either completely delete your Xcode preferences file (~/
Library/Preferences/com.apple.Xcode.plist) or edit the plist file in
Property List Editor to remove the PBXGlobalFindOptionsSets key.
If you quit Xcode, do that, reopen Xcode, and go back to the Project
Find window, Xcode will regenerate the find options sets for you,
using the default values, and your searches may start working again.
I chose to edit the preferences .plist. It worked. Thank you very much
indeed.
